New rule: No Political Discussion

My political views are probably quite a bit different from many of you on this site. The last thing I want is for anyone to get offended and quit coming here because of some off-topic discussion.

We are here to talk about ATVs. If you want to talk about other topics, go to KR or someplace that has an area for that.

I will remind you that the whole reason petty fights and bannings have been happening over at KR is DIRECTLY related to non-ATV discussions that have turned into verbal pissing contests.

I appreciate your cooperation and understanding.

There are plenty of other topics that we can discuss without degenerating into a flame war, as discussions of politics and religion almost always do.

Jody, I guess I can understand why your feelings are hurt. But look, I deleted the topic for a reason, then you made a SPECIFIC REFERENCE to the very topic I deleted. That invites everyone to weigh in with their opinion again. Does that explain where I'm coming from?

I never said you were violating rules when you made the initial post. However, reading the thread made me realize that politics is an area we need to avoid.

Clearly my attempt to avoid controversy has blown up in my face. But, if attempting to steer clear of politics is what kills the site, then I won't be sorry. I have other things I can devote my time and attention to.

Okay, Jody, I formally, officially and sincerely apologize for taking a harsh tone.

I realize you did not intend to revive the topic. I hope you can forgive me for reacting harshly.

Let's all remember that Jay is human and slightly brain-damaged. (Okay, the brain damage is just a guess, but my wife would probably tell you it's correct.)

So where do we go from here?

I've gotten a lot of feedback that the ATV-only policy is confusing and not much fun. My only true reason for this policy is to avoid dust-ups like have happened at other forums that resulted in unpleasant things like banning.

So, let's try something different....

From now on, the General area is anything-goes. We can't go completely un-moderated, but can pull way back. Basically nobody who is currently active would do any of the things that we just can't allow - like threats of violence, posting of pornography, racial or ethnic slurs.. you get the idea. The obvious stuff.

Please guys, I'm open to everyone's input, even if you just want to tell me I'm an a-hole (though that would be best left to PMs). Even if you hate my guts or are super pissed-off at me right now, please vent to me and let me know what you want from the site. I will do my best, but just remember that everyone's needs/desires have to be considered.

Jody, it was political in the sense that it involves a politician and people have very strong feelings about the issue. Don't force me to get into an argument over what was said versus how it was interpreted for political gain.

If people are getting in an uproar over it - which we all know they are - THEN IT IS POLITICAL.
