Sounds like your chokes are stuck open. This is a common problem . Take the choke cables apart and remove the plungers from the carbs. Clean and lube everything. The springs are very weak . Go to your dealer and order part # 92081-1720. They're about $6.00 a piece. This is a spring that is longer and stiffer that will help keep the plungers seated. When you pull your choke it only takes about 1/3 of the distance that the lever will travel to open the plungers all the way. Anymore than that and you're just putting the cables in a bind.

BRUTE POPPING AND SNAPPING

MY BRUTE DID THE SAME THING AFTER INSTALLING THE SNORKEL KIT AND COMPUTER CHIP. IT WAS CURED WITH CARB REJETTING.
