I guess you could pull the temp sensor out of the radiator an put a heat gun on it

Just let it sit and idle for about 20 min. It should kick on and off during that time.

If the hot light comes on and the fan doesn't...there's an issue. And it won't take an hour of idling for it to become hot enough for the fan...or the hot light.. to come on. Maybe 40 minutes tops.

It's hard to hear the fan when you're riding, especially with a helmet on. If it's not overheating chances are it's working. It doesn't take very long for it to cycle on at idle so just let it run and watch it.

You could reset the fan switch, It's under the seat - see your Owners Manual for details.

You can also bypass the temp sensor by running a 12v wire to the fan motor just to see if the motor works.

A temp gauge is helpful for these situations and can be installed for under $50. Search for info under TrailTech TTO for a simple gauge. The fan will come on at around 210F and off at 190F.
