I have yet to hear mine come on. ('07 BFi)

I've only ridden about half an hour at a time so far but the other day I did a couple consecutive half hour rides with about ten mins between them.

Is there a way to tell if it's working without letting it idle for an hour?

Is it normal for it to not come on under my riding conditions?

Just looking for knowledge & peace of mind.

Thanks.

I guess you could pull the temp sensor out of the radiator an put a heat gun on it

Just let it sit and idle for about 20 min. It should kick on and off during that time.

It's hard to hear the fan when you're riding, especially with a helmet on. If it's not overheating chances are it's working. It doesn't take very long for it to cycle on at idle so just let it run and watch it.

You could reset the fan switch, It's under the seat - see your Owners Manual for details.

You can also bypass the temp sensor by running a 12v wire to the fan motor just to see if the motor works.

A temp gauge is helpful for these situations and can be installed for under $50. Search for info under TrailTech TTO for a simple gauge. The fan will come on at around 210F and off at 190F.
