Default Winter Ride, Elephant Butte NM Area

Went down last week for some warmer riding temps, down to the T or C/Elephant Butte Lake area in South Central New Mexico. Temps were warmer, hoovered around the low 50's-a nice warm change.

Did a some riding right along the Rio Grande River on the outskirts of T or C.

Headed over to Monticello Canyon/Box, NW of Elephant Butte Lake off of State Highway 142 and rode up the canyon, crossing the stream a good 40 times, sometimes the trail is right up through the stream. This stream is fed by Hot Springs, I'll get some Pics of the Hot Springs on the next Trip in April(April 10th). Jump a small herd of Anelope past the Hot Springs too.
Great ride, have the EHS muddler lid on order, so come April I can charge through the stream w/o any steam/water intake problems on the Brute.

That looks like an excellent place to ride. I especially liked the Monticello Box pic. I love riding/crossing shallow streams.

NMK; I am going back down in April, that is the soonest I can get back down there.
Dean says there is No problem in hitting the trails/roads around T or C, at times it is fun to ride in the Desert landscape as long as it doesn't get too hot outside. Then everyone jumps on their jetski's and play in Elephant Butte Lake.
I'll give you a yell to see if you want to ride that weekend in April, I'm trying to get some of the other's in our riding club(High Country ATV Explorers) to go down on the 10th of April but anymore they seem to be a bunch of deadbeats or claim it is too far to drive there, it is only a 2 hour drive from Albuquerque, much further for me. I may be going down early on the 9th to get some Desert riding in on Friday afternoon, then back home on the 11th.
I posted a short poor low- grade grainy Video of riding a section in Monticello Box with my Digital Camera(held in my left hand) and posted it on my webshot page www.webshots.com/user/bfb650b2 just to try to get the others in the club interested in going down for the ride but so far no interest.

Since you all like those PICs, here are some more:

Shoot.. that's close for me. A while back a friend took us down to Socorro to where thay ran the OMG race. We ran that out a few times and you are right, it can get Pretty D. hot down there. April would still be nice. I work weekends but maybe I can switch with someone. Let me know when and maybe I can get a few buds to go too. Great pics!
