Re: 1998 bayou 300 4x4 winch pics
Al,
My winch is currently off my Prairie, but as long as he has the correct mounting plate, everything should line up.* Did he clearly specify his model/ year, when ordering?* If so, check the part numbers on the kit and contact the winch mfg to ensure that he was sent the correct mounting plate.

When I got the winch plate for my winch (EXTREME ATV 2500lbs of of EBAY) I felt the same way... I was like What the...?!
Mine was from 2007, and didnt have synthetic rope, but the plate looks the same...
EDIT: I cant post URLS yet...
Basically mine just laid on the main framerails and had hardware to secure it that didnt quite fit... like it was juuuust soo small to fit around the rails...and when you got it around the rails it was juuuuust too short to line up the holes. I checked and it was the right kit according to the manufacturer.
The end of the plate stuck out of the front bumper and the cable guide bolts to that.
I ended up welding it to the frame. I dont have any good pics now but if its not too late Ill post up 1 or two when I get home.
These pics are what I could find on my computer (yes I know its ugly...lol)
If you have the same kit good luck. Ill post a better pic or two later.
EDIT: I cant paste URLs yet.

NOW I can upload pics!
OK here is what I ended up doing... it is a combination of the two mounts that came with it... the small one that the fairlead is mounted to came with the winch, the big one is the one that was "for a 99 bayou 300"
I just makeshifted it and welded er up.

The big plate has a fairlead mount on it too, but it comes out way too low and the line ran the risk of rubbing the frame, so that's why I did it that way.
This may or may not help you out, but here it is anyway.
