Default Strut springs

I'm going to change the strut springs on my '98 prarie 400. I could use a little "how to" advise, especially about where to get a spring compressor tool that will work well. Thanks in advance.

I don't know if struts need a different spring compressor then regular shocks, but the HL compressor seems to be well liked and works for all kinds of shocks.

I know of some who have used a large C clamp to compress the spring and then heavy duty zip ties to keep it compressed while they take the strut off. I have not done this personally, but would probably use a ton of zip ties just in case. You would not want the spring to unload unexpectedly. A person could really get hurt. Maybe a ratchet strap might work better.

Nope, don't do it! Death awaits! Do a search on changing springs and read my tail of woe!

Get the correct tool from HL. It works fine. The rigging in the shop is a disaster waiting to happen!

Thanks guys, I know rigging the spring compression can be dangerous, that's why I'm looking for the best tool. It's my understanding that the HL tool only works on shocks not struts. Harbor freight has a MacPherson Strut Spring Compressor Set ITEM 3980-1VGA for $14.99. This sounds kinda "cheap" to me. I like low prices but don't want it to fail under load either. Anyone have any experience with this tool?

I have not had experience with that tool but there other stuff has treated me well. I would feel confident that if this is a one time use go for it.
