Cummins with a manual tranny, every turbo should have a 5 or 6 speed IMO.

Yep, I say go with the Dirty Max! I drive an 08 Chevy Silverado 1500 (5.3L) but my brother and one of my brother in laws each have a 2500HD with the Duramax/Allison combo. Really nice engines!! Crazy stupid power! Great for pulling all kinds of loads. My brother in law uses his in his excavating company and has pulled a lot of different things with it including portable concrete batch plants and silos!! The engine and tranny are a perfect marriage. He gets unbelievable fuel mileage with it too! One thing though, it doesn't matter what brand you buy, repairs on a diesel are really expensive! Good luck with your choice.

Cummins is a better engine the the duramax. It has proven itself over and over. The allison is by far a better transmission. If you get a dodge get a manual. Either way they are both better than the powerstrokes!!! I have a newer GM gas and love the ride and look of it. Get whatever you like the most.

I have a 2007 New body 2500hd crew with the duramax/allison. All I can say is thats its awesome. The tranny is great and very smooooth!! No need to worry about the IFS, its been around a real long time. It started on GM pickups in '88. I had it in my 96 tahoe and my buddy been plowing with IFS forever. And the IFS has a nice ride and can still hold the weight. Go for the GM. BTW, if I take it easy on the pedal I get 17 around town and 22-24 on the highway. Gotta keep it between 65-70 though which is kind of tough. Good luck with your decision.

I have an 03 duramax and the only problem I have had is the injectors. They were covered by an extended warranty that GM put out though. The cummins is a power house for sure though. I just happen to be a GM type of guy. The power is nice too and mine aint sittin stock either. I like power to much!!!!!

tha mule, weve got a 2001 duramax with 350,000 miles on it and just put the fourth set of injectors on it, gm covered it partially three times, got bad news on this last time though bent a rod and the motor is coming out but not bad for the miles on it and we are usually are right at 26,000 pounds loaded twice a day.

I forgot all about this thread. Well the Chevy's transmission started slipping a couple weeks ago. So I started shopping.
I brought home a 2007 Ford 150 4x4 rolling on 37" ProComps.
It was previously owned by a female, and the undercarriage and several other things were pink. Well the third day I had it, it started raining. Can you guess what happened? It started to turn pink again. All they did was paint over everything. So I went back to the dealer and they refused to do anything about the pink. They told me I can get another truck from there lot since I was over the 3 day return policy. It was actually the 4th day. They didn't have much, just a Z71 and I didn't really want another one. Manager came out and showed me some of the trucks they just got in and were just serviced.
Seen an 06 Dodge Ram Night Runner Hemi and took it for a test drive, I fell in love.
It might not be a Cummins, or a 4x4 but I'm getting about 16 mpg and I have a warranty. Oh and the chicks dig it too.
Sorry for the long story, it's been a good day for me and I don't have much else to do.
