Default coming up with parallels to explain things

so i got this chick friend, and she knows i wrench alot. shes always trying to tell me how much the skin is a sponge and absorbs every. so she lectures me on how i should wear gloves while wrenching to advoid cancer and what not.. which i knew already it was a risk, especially with burnt oil. but i kept telling her its just not the same wearing gloves, you can't feel as well. (well i do use gloves for draining oil now, but for regular greasy wrenching i still don't use gloves). shes still thinks its not a big deal to wear gloves.

i basically came up with this parallel for her. its alot like sex.... its just don't feel the same (condoms)

I wrench a lot too, and am always getting my hands in all kinds of things and yes, I know, she's right, some of it gets absorbed in. This is true for even lotions they use every day. Like you and most people, you just can't feel what you are doing with any gloves on. I did try some different types, but either couldn't get the job done, or the chemicals eat the rubber gloves off. I even tried that liquid glove but it takes too long to dry. Not a bad concept though.

Not sure what the answer is...but it's not "Stop Wrenching"

Eh, I wrench a fair bit. Mind you not for a living... But if you look around, I see lots of old mechanics around doing just fine. Look at any number of jobs and there are plenty of hazards to be dealt with. Pick your poison and live with it. I paint for a living and my hands are always in it.

We just started using a new cut resistant glove at work and its madatory that If I leave my office I have a pair on. Period! I have used them now doing all sorts of jobs including some greasie, oily wrenching and they work really well. They have a thin rubber coating over the thin cut proof material. I had really good grip even when oily. You guys are right. its not the same but while looking for a good cut proof glove to use for the plant we tried close to 30 different types of mech gloves. This is the best we have come up with that seems to work for everyone. Feel, protection, convenience, comfort, cost etc... I'll get the full description, cost, manufactor etc.. and take a pic if anyone's interested.

OK, here is the gloves we settled on for the guys in my plant. They are supplied to us by Haglemeyer. That's our main stores supplier. They are called G-Tek, Maxigard 5. The ratings on this glove is 4543. The numbers stand in order of Tear, Cut, Abrasion, puncture. and the numbers are 1 being the worst and 5 being the best. So this glove is 4 on Tear, 5 on Cut, 4 on abrasion, and 3 on puncture. They are pretty comfortable with the stretch and breathable Dyneema back side with a rubber palm side. They come in 6 sizes. This is a medium. They are costing us about $6 a pair. They come in a doz at a time. Anybody want to try a pair, let me know. I got some!
