When I got mine it wasn't adjusted at all right. The cable barely had enough adjustment to make it lock up. I ended up moving the lever on the diff one tooth so I would have some adjustment later when the clutches got worn in. Left it slightly loose but where it would engage good.

Now though it seems like it doesn't work when I grab it, and yet it keeps locking up randomly. Checked the cable, it could use adjusted tighter but is not binding to cause this. Go straight and try to turn and you barely can because the clutches are locked, turn the other way and it will come loose. Started this the other day after a steep climb where the front end started clicking bad, either the diff or a CV, I think it is in the diff as it only clicks in 4wd like the gears are popping past...
I think I broke a tooth off a gear or the bearings have gone out letting the gears slop away from each other.
