Default What Tachometer's have you used?

I was wondering what Tachometers you have used on your bikes? I'm not totally convinced on doing a digital one yet. But I kinda like the Autometer but I don't think a 5'' monster Tach will look good either. Maybe a digital on will work for me but I want something I can read also. What do you use and how do you like?

I had the Daytona on my 08BF750. No problems with it at all, very easy to hook up, readable at night, big enough numbers to glance down at it while riding and see the RPMs.
The Daytona doesn't take much room either to mount.
I'll be getting the Daytona again for the 09 750 as well.
I just need to come up with a improved/cleaner mount than on my 08BFto mount it in the same place, my friends mount is cleaner looking but I don't care for it to be that high, as at times I am in some thick overhanging brush and want the Tach to set lower to protect it but high enough to read it by glancing down to the Pod.
This Daytona Tach goes for around $122 Shipped.
Here it is mounted on a Friends 750 on his camo Brute along with mine.

What benefits are you guys seeing with a tach on an auto machine? Just wondering.

Wondering that myself. The limiter should keep it from over-reving...my ear tells me whether I need to be in low or high range or if its idling too fast or slow...so...why? What are we missing here.

The only FI 4wheelers w/o tachs are the Jap units, I know the Grizz doesn't have it, not sure on the Suzy 750.
Now for me I really don't need a tach but when I had it on my 08 750 I really liked it. Just glace down to see what rpm's you are at is nice, if you are just criusing along or WOT.
Others install the Tach for performance issues, changing clutching or adding fuel controllers.

For me its just something to look at. I was kinda thinking I could get more of a read for clutch springs for trail riding. But I guess its more to impress or for me to look at.

On the Shindy Daytona it is a 3 wire hook-up.
ignition pulse sensor lead (frt spark plug wire)
ground wire
positive lead wire.

Features:
For 2/4- cycles, 1-8 cylinders
19,990 RPM limit
Maximun engine rpm memory (resetable)
Water resistant
LED lighted
Easy to read digital numbers
Auto power-off.

And yes, it is fun to look at it .
We ride in the Jemez Mountains all of the time here (Warmer months) and every now and then we end up down on Highway 4 where a trail we ride ends at the Highway and our Forest Road we are needing to hook up with is 1.1 miles down this Highway, so Dave and I jump onto the Highway and let it rip.
During a week day (less highway traffic, like zero) we can get away with this stunt and we look forward to doing it every Summer, now Daves BF750 has the VForceJohn clutching, removed engine braking and the added fuel adjustment meter, I forget which one, the complete Header pipe/muffler and his pipes are all cermeric coated. Anyway Dave does pull away from my Stock Brute, we both are running 26" radials. Dave has his GPS on, it reads out at 72.1mph @ 8,600 ft Elevation before Dave has to let off the gas, as our turn off is appoarching quickly. I never have my GPS on because I know where I'm at and I always forget to take it with me anyway (CRS). My speedo was reading 68mph while I was chasing Dave, Dave was a good 10 bike lenghts in front of me. I was tucked down so low I was looking right at the Tach, it just kept climbing, slowly but still going up, when I let off of the gas it was reading over 8000 rpms. I don't recall what the highest RPM reading was, as this Highway isn't straight as a Arrrow, has a curve in it and riding at 65+ on atv tires and in a curve can be nerve racking. Next time I am going to have my Helmet cam on..
I'll see if I can Find the PIC of the readout on Daves GPS and post it.
