Actuator Control System Trouble Shooting,
When the actuator fails, the controller enters failure mode and the indicator light illuminates 2WD,4WD alternately.
1. If it alternates really fast at .5 seconds on 2wd and .5 seconds on 4wd then the problem is Selectable 2wd/4wd actuator.
2. If it alternates from 2wd/4wd at 1 second intervals, the problem is the Engine Brake Actuator.
3. If it alternates from 2wd/4wd at 2 second intervals, the problem is both the selectable 2wd/4wd actuator and Engine brake actuator.

That's what it says. Check all the connections first. You can also pull it, take it apart and clean it up. Make sure the fork is working correctly and that when you out it back in, the pin on the rotator fits back into the slide bushing it came out of.

Sometimes though....they are just gone and have to be replaced.

I pulled the cover today cleaned the actuator & looked at the forks , on the forks there are like 2 pads made out of plastic , those had some wear on them. Notches where it had been rubbing up against something . Before I had mentioned at times when I turned the bike off the actuator would keep making a noise , that not happening at all now. Do you think a new actuator will fix or will I need actuator & those forks? Do you see any need for me to try to reset the front actuator in the diff , like I did when resetting the the belt light . Once again thanks .

Thanks for the info. I removed the engine brake actuator and even tho is works dis-assembled it to makes sure all is clean. My indicator blinks about .5 secs so it must be the 4WD actuator on the differential. I will again remove it later and check it better. Going to the camp today and will have to ride 4WD all the time.
I saw somewhere where a guy modified his differential actuator using a choke cable to manually switch from 2WD to 4WD. This may be what I have to do to eliminate more electronic BS on the Brute. In doing so tell me what use is the engine break anyway? Another guy posted somewhere how to eliminate the break actuator as well using a relay but I'll have to find it as well.

The engine break keeps the belt engaged while going down hill. Without it the quad will free wheel like it's in neutral when you let off the throttle. My prairie is like that. It's no big deal, you can learn to ride without the engine break but it takes a while to get used to blipping the throttle to slow down. I rode the prairie for years like that but have gotten used to e-brake on the brutes.

There are a lot of things that need to be working in order for the electronic 4x4 actuator to work, including but not limited to:
Actuator
CDI Box
Wire Harness
Gauge Display
Throttle assembly

This site is great, I have not posted before but I read a lot and it helped me get my bike up and running again more than once, good luck!

Mechanical 4x4 system is always an option, eBay, search for Kawasaki Brute Force Prairie Mechanical 4wd electronic actuator replacement

Hello! I have a 2007 Brute Force 750i quad. I am having the problem mentioned here, with the 2WD/4WD indicators flashing/alternating at one second intervals. I removed the 2WD/4WD actuator and I disassembled it. The magnets are where they should be, the gears are all perfect and the whole thing inside and out looks like it's brand new. The gears all turned the way they should. Since I had it off, I added a little gear grease and put it back on the quad. I think there may be something else preventing it from working.

It worked fine until the battery went dead, so I'm wondering if the battery dying had something to do with it. When the battery was dying, there was a high pitched whine coming from somewhere on the quad. I have a new battery installed, and since then the actuator hasn't made its normal sound and hasn't worked. When I reinstalled the actuator, I plugged it in to the harness to check if it worked before bolting it in, and it didn't. I finished installing it so I wouldn't misplace any parts.

All of the components of the quad are so tightly packed together and I don't know what to check. I think I saw someone else mention the battery when they were diagnosing the problem, but I'm not sure. I have looked for fuses to check but the only ones I can find are the main fuses running from the battery to the rest of the quad.

Can anyone help me with some easy to follow instructions on what to do now? I'd appreciate it!

Rob

Yes, it must be the brake actuator because it came off the right side, top front of the belt/engine cover. I used to hear it cycle but not anymore. That’s the one I took apart and everything looked new. But if the motor is burned out, I’m out of luck and will have to get another one, won’t I?

Hey! I am having a 4wd actuator problem. I have a 2008 brute force 750. The 4wd/2wd light blings. I opened both actuators and thought that the potentiometers are bad. So i ordered the same ones from aliexpress changed them but nothing happened. The engine brake works and also it makes a sound (as it should) when the key is turned off. But i took out the 4wd actuator and disconnected the front main diff, putted the quad off ground. Turned the engine on and the actuator moved (but i thing from my view it moved in a middle position of 4wd/2wd). The i flipped the switch to 4wd mode and putted it in reverse, let the brake off and nothing moved. While the quad was working i flipped multiple times to 4wd and 2wd and changed the gears, but it does not move. But the weird thing is that when i turn the key off the actuator moves, and to the opposite directon (also seems like it’s standing in the middle position of 4wd/2wd). I checked all wires and plugged/unplugged all connectors. What else should i check? The speedometer is working. I don’t know what else i need to change to get it running correctly.

I cant find a "engine brake actuator" anywhere online i have a 2008 BF750 and its flashing in 1 second intervals but i cannot find any engine brake actuator part only the 4wd actuator. could irt be built in together?

Hey! They look the same the only difference is that the engine brake actuator has a steel square on the moving end and the engine brake does not. But i just fixed my brute forces actuator problems myself. Basically rhe problem with all of them is tthat the potentiometer inside goes bad and the computer reads false resistance. O ordered 2 pieces from alibaba for 20$ changed them in both of the actuators and they work as new. Don’t need to sped 300$ on a new actuator if there is only one problem with them.
