Correct. It is not hard to make at all. I made one myself but I don't have any pictures.

Right. That's about all it is. I bought an EPI and it's just a piece of angle iron to grip in the vice, some 1/2" all thread welded to the angle iron, some nuts and washers and comp-ring that is sized to push the head away from the circlip. I'll get a pic and post it for you when I get a chance. If I new that this was all it was, I'd a made my own too.

Or you can do it the redneck way, like I did. Take two Jorgenson woodworking clamps, lock 'em into a Black & Decker workmate vice top thingy, and use the Jorgenson's to compress the OUTSIDE edges of the flanges. Works like a charm. Not something I'd want to use everyday, but for the once in 2 years I 've needed it, it was fine.

I'd show the pix, if I could figure out where I put them.

You could actually do the same thing with any sort of woodworking clamps. The idea is to be able to compress to parts together--whcihs is what woodworking clamps are make to do.

Look here in the garage to see the one I made. You just need some angle iron, flat bar & some nutz & bolts. I have done 10 or so with the one I made.

Glad to help NP. And you don't need that lower nut and washer. You just use the upper anyway.

Seems like I used mine about four times in the last two years, so it was nice to have.

You can also make from a piece of threaded 5/8 rod, a couple of nuts and oversized washers, and a PVC end cap with a cut out in it. Total cost will be about $5.00. I have used mine many times, on my Prairie and vtprairie's BF, with zero problems.
