I know its an old thread but I am a fairly new brute owner and I have a question about the home made compressors. If you weld the all thread to some angle so it can be clamped in a vise why is everyone using the other nuts and washers? I understand why there is a nut and washer on the top of the cap but why underneath? I got the scrap and a new steel cap sitting around just waiting on another rainy day.

Thx

Mine from EPI came with those extra nuts too. I think they are for another applications that they are needed, but they are not needed for use as the secondary compresser, just the one on top for the compression of the cap.

Just a side note, did you drill a hole through the angle iron, then slip the rod through and weld it on the back side and the top side, or just butt-welded it to the iron? I am asking because of a thread on another site where a butt weld didn't hold and it came apart on the guy. The EPI compresser was drilled and welded on both sides. Just FYI.
