Default Snorkeling 2008 BF 650i

What are you guys using to snorkel a 2008 650i? I read a lot of conflicting suggestions:
- 2" pipe is okay or not okay
- 90's are okay or not okay
- have to rejet vs don't have to rejet

I'd like to hear from guys that have done it and can say for sure. The local dealer said he has done 2" snorkels on 650's without jetting, so I'm curious. When I bought my mud lid, I was told I didn't have to rejet, which was true, but I lost power so obviously I'm running lean.

If snorkels mean rejetting, then I won't waste my time, and I'll stick with my mud lid. But if you guys are doing it and not losing performance, then I'd like to do it.

I have not done it but the concept is simple. The stock Brute intake system is designed to meet epa noise requirements. To acheave that, they must be forced to hold a certain level of vacuum at RPMs higher then about 1600. They jet it accordingly. Any change in that vacuum level either less or more will cause the need to change main jet sizes. Ok, now, the intake opening of the box is designed to maintain a specific restriction throught the RPM Range. Something the mud lid wasn't designed to do. So, if you snorkle, and it provides no additional restriction, then you won't have to rejet either way. That's just fact. For the 750, 2" snorkles do restrict the airflow and in most cases will require rejetting. Now more and more people are going to the 3" snorkle setup as this doesn't cause restriction. I would recomend that for the 650 as well. Remember to top it with the 180 degree long sweap and face it back. MIMB had several how Tos and have this down pretty well.

Hope this helps.

2" intake snork didnt work on mine without the trouble of re jetting. I would say 3" is a better idea. I got mad with trying to get mine to run properly with snorks and finally cut them all off

Not sure on 650 but my 750 I did 2" with no issues. Of course it is FI so I had none to mess with.

i have a 2009 650i and i went with 2" for my intake fully then for my belt i went 1 1/2" all the way to the racks then went up to 2", i rejetted bc i put the hmf exhaust with the k&n, my bike was running awesome at first then it started to pop alittle once i got to high speeds. then i filled out my rear plug and last weekin burn the oil ring i think. not sure if its from jetting and doing some of the stuff i did but she was a beast wen she was in the mud!!

RIP 2009 brute 650i
