Glowing headers after snorkel install!!!
Alright well I got sick of all the hassle that you go through when you submerge a Brute (on accident of course) so I went ahead and took the parts list on the site here and snorkeled my Brute. Nice list and easy to follow instructions... Nice one to the contributors of that thread.. So after I got done tonight I fired her up and ran her around for a little while. When I got back (not a long ride) I noticed the headers were cherry red and glowing. Whats the deal wth that??? Is that something I have just never noticed or is the bike running lean or rich and need jet adjustment. Any and all help as always is appreciated. Thanks for the help in advance. This site ROCKS!!!!

Let me first ask a few questions.
1. Did you make any modifications to the airbox like add an additional hole for an extra snorkle.
2. What was the parts list for the airbox snorkle?
3. What did you use for the top of the airbox snorkle and which direction did you face it

So To answer the questions. No I dod not make any other modifications to the air box it is all stock. The parts list I used is the one off this site in the snorkeling a brute forum titled snorkel parts list. it was a thread started by bunnycop and the list was from Kevinb427 I believe. The only difference is I used sweeping 90's and 45's instead of hard ones. And the tops of the snorkels are 45's coming out right in front of the gauge pod and pointing back at me. Thanks for the info..

Found it. We discovered some time after that that the intake for the box although ovel in shape is actualy larger then 2" so even when using the 3" 90 off the box, using 2" after that, expecialy along with additional turns is more restrictive. This means you will need to drop a size or two in main jet size to maintain the same a/f mix while running off the mains...say above 1600 rpm. Or...you could replace the 2" stuff with 2 1/4 or even better...2 1/2". Keep the 3" rubber 90. That's OK. Take a look at a plug and see if it hast started burning darker first. It won't be much, but it should be noticable. Also, you can unhook the up-pipe from the 90 and take it for a run at night and see if it still does it. It shouldn't.
Too Lean and too rich causes pipes to run hoter then normal. I never heard of any snorkle causing one to run leaner except for one, and he cut an additional hole in the box and added an additional snorkle.
Good luck

So is it bad for the pipes to be cherried like that. My other concern is that I choked the bike out and ran it and the glowing went away. (or so it seemed to). Is there an air/fuel gauge I could use or how can you actually tell if the bike is to lean or too rich. Thanks for the help.

You can make it rich enough to cool back off but it can only hurt things if its too lean. That's when people loose pistons and burn valves. Rich...short of flooding.. just makes carbon and of course...bad gas milage. Try the removal of the up-pipe and check it out tonight.

I am the one you heard of with the to lean after snorkeling issue which in fact is a very common problem at sea level or close to it. When you snorkel the machine you are adding turbulence in the bends and restrictive pipe and limiting the air normally. I modified my airbox to run 2 snorkels and currently making roughly 60 hp at the rear wheels with no issues at all. Your best bet for expert advise is to contact a mane named John from Interstate Motorsports in Barnesville, P.A. He goes by vforce john and has a website under that same name. This man is a pro at these machines and can fix anything. I spent 2.5 hours on a dyno one night with him.

2 intake snorkels is the way to go in some cases for sure. Most actually.
