Default Brute running rich after snorkel, until RAM

* I installed snorkel kit and I am happy with what I can do going through water. No problem with water over front rack.
* My issue is that my bike was gas hungry. I thought one day that I would take the last 45 elbow and turn the snorkel to the wind. Man what a shit load of improved performance that made. I am looking at getting some fabric to cover air intake to make it water proof. I know that crap in the intake is not good. The tranny snorkels are all right because the belt and clutches act like a fan, drive air out and bring air in.
* The air intake with RAM Air is the answer. Point that air intake snorkel to the front and try to keep the Kawi down. Gas mileage was thrifty to say the least. Fastest bike and gas mileage, how can we go wrong?

Do you have just the one tube breather? 2"? I was also looking at doing the double 1 1/2"s with flex hose to make sure I had no restriction and to do away with as many hard corners that restrict flow and then pointing them to the front. When you find a fabric that doesn't restrict your flow let us in on it. Post pics when you can!!

I tried the same thing with the ram air method when i installed my 2" snorks before jetting and it ram wicked untill you go from full throttle to no throttle and the brute pops, snaps farts sometimes stalls,* im sure its not good for the motor like this.* Have you tried going full throttle then letting off?

i found with my 08 brute with the same ram air it had more power too. i have no problems with pops unless going down hill for extended period of time using alot of engine braking then it backfires and what not..

i also think it defeats the purpose of having a snorkel, mud, water leaves are still going to get in your airbox like this,* i was scared to jet mine once i did it and once you do it once its not a big deal

After biking for the last 6 or 7 months with the snorkel facing the wind in all conditions......it works great. I have biked in the rain, the fall of the year leaves and even snow. I tried an Outerwear covering over snorkel and that even made the Kawi cough. I tried turning the snorkel a little to the right and not be straight into wind and it worked. I was out in a downpour last summer and turned snorkel a bit to the side and bike worked great . When I checked air filter box, it was good.
I still need to know why my Kawi is starved for air with snorkel faced towards me?

Think about the moving air like water flow. Turning either takes effort and force. Looking down on the moving machine in your mind's eye helps. With the intake forward, its straight in and you get the ram effect, any side direction you are only turning the air 90 degreese to enter the intake which is a little harder, but not as hard as facing back where you are forcing it to make a 180 degree turn to move in the same direction and even faster then the machine to enter the intake. That, and the natural restriction of a snorkle that is less then 3" and the asperation effect the moving air has on the snorkle creating pull.. like it does in a carb will make it hard enough for any engine to cause starvation. And probably the faster you go, the worse it is. This is why Kawie put the stock intake on the box in front. So it could take advantage of the air commpression effect that happens under the front plastics.

Most guys put two 90s on the ends so it faces down, and the difference from being facing front or back isn't much (but there is some). The running is consistant enough to rejet and be fine.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Man, Kawi reps have not explained this problem as good as you have.
