Default 06 BF 650 SRA 'Clacking noise?

Coming up on 1 year old, 200 hrs, 1200 miles. Lots of those with wife and kids! Not riding to break the machine by any means.

Started hearing a loud clacking sound and feared it was my belt. Mostly happens when I am turning slowly.

A friend said it is probably the small U Joint for the rear drive train.

No apparent damage to the boot that covers it!

Is this normal?

I have the extended 3 yr warranty. Should it be covered?

Thanks,

Rich

It doesent sound like you ride hard on the machine so i would guess it would be covered but im not sure about the labour.

Default 06 BF 650 SRA 'Clacking noise?

I've read so many posts about the horrors of getting something covered under warranty that I feel like I have been defeated already!

I have cleaned under the seat so as not to leave any traces of dirt or mud. But the real kicker is that I have new tires and rims. Same size as the stocks, no spacers or lifts. But they are mudlites. So some people questioned whether the dealer would balk at it because the tread is so much more aggresive.

I plan to take it in tomorrow. So I gues I will see soon enough.

Thanks for the reply...

from what i know at my dealer they sell alot of their bikes with mudlights and still honor the warranty with them. Im sure you wont have a problem with them since they are only 25s they probably dont add all that much more stress on the machine. If your honest with them they wont give you a hard time.

Goodluck.

You mean turning (like left or right) or rolling slowly.

My Primary was "clacking" right off idle and would stop when I got moving. It just needed re-shimmed.

If you are thinking it is a U-joint in the rear end and it is like a popping noise, it could be your rear swing arm bearings. If it is them, they are probably rusted and frozen because water got to them, probably not an item the dealer would cover under warranty. If it is that, you would be better served to do it yourself and put in freeze plugs to keep the water out. Not a hard job, but you will need a second set of hands at times.

Get on the bike and rock it side to side, if it clacks when you rock it, its most likly your swingarm bearings. Like fitz said easier to do it yourself.
