Too much air = hard to start?
I finished snorkeling my brute last week. When I finished I was unable to start the bike for the first few minutes, there was just a thunk. After a few tries the engine turned over and ran fine. The next week a trailer the quad to Busco beach and the same thing happened where the bike wouldn't start right off or even try to turn over. Once the bike started it ran fine all day without any more starting issues.
Anyone have any ideas on what is happening and how I might fix it?

I ride at busco a lot too. Great place. For the problem though, I have heard of a lot of people that have had to put caps over their snorkels when hauling because they take in air and cause them to overload making them hard to start. This may be what's going on.

If I'm reading this right, the motor is not turning over. May be loose wire to starter, battery, switch? Or nuetral safty switch not closed to allow the starter to get power. Or the switch on the brake that lets you start in gear.

You need to cap your air snorkel to prevent the air from pushing the fuel through the pump and hydrolocking the cylinders. Before you snorkeld it, you had a deflecter plate in front of the airbox to prevent this from happening. Now you don't. The brutes have a vacuum pump fuel delivery that does not use an electric pump but vacuum and siphon effect. If air is forced in, it will deliver fuel wether it's running or not. Since they don't install a tap, you can install one yourself or simply cut a 2" piece of pipe and put a cap on the end and shove it the 90* elbow and keep it in your left pocket so you don't forget it when you travel, atleast that's what I do.
If that happens again, you really need to drain the oil, cuz all that fuel in it can ruin the rod bearings. One other thing, when you do cap it if you go to crank it and you forget to remove the cap and you have trouble cranking it after you remember to remove the cap, simply remove the airbox lid and it should start right up for ya.
