Belt change question
I need to replace the belt on my '08 sometime soon. This will be my first. I still need to get a primary puller. My question is, if I use an OEM belt and keep my stock springs, is there any reason to pull the secondary? Shouldn't the deflection be in range since it will be all stock?

It likely will be in range. The best thing that you can do is put the new belt on and then check the deflection. If it is not, you can easily make a spring compressor to allow you to remove the circlip from the secondary and split the sheaves. Then you just add, or remove, shims as necessary. It takes awhile the first time you do it, but it is definitely not rocket science.

X2 I got lucky when I put an OEM back in I put in all the shims it ame with and it was right on first shot. Now in about fifty miles of hill climbing it stretched enough that I had to pull a thin shim out. The book says pull both with the belt and install as a unit...so why not do it by the book. Just say'n

Don't forget the bolt on the drive pully is left hand threads. And with an impact you can remove the driven pully in about 30 seconds, so why not. It makes it easier.

I finally got around to changing the belt. Amazingly it didn't show much sign of wear but it was slightly stretched. The sheaves were glazed pretty good though. I got everything cleaned up and back together with no problems.
I also installed a maroon primary spring ...Wow, what a difference.
Thanks Guys for all of your help.

I'm already thinking about that for the Camo.
