When I get the chance I'll look at my manual, but usualy thay need or want something held in a certain place or position while some else is being moved so other stuff will line up later.

Does your brute have a noisey engine or does it run quiet? Im asking cuz I had mine rebuilt and it has a knock to it. I have heard the same thing on other brutes on youtube, but then on others I hear nothing and on those bikes seem to run stronger. My brute has power but falls on its face after 35mph. Could that noise be the timeing chain? It sputers a bit too about 1/4 throdle. If I am rideing slow when I hit 1/4 throdle it falls on its face too. Any advise?

BruteBoy's is all apart right now but on yours, Let me ask..
1. Do you have a Dynatek CDI?
2. If so,was anything done to the carbs before or after installation?
3. Are you sure the float levels are exactly where they should be?
4. Are you sure the valve lash is set correctly?
5. This knocking you hear, when do you hear it and does it go away at a certian RPM -if it does, what would you guess is that RPM?

Now let me ask a clutch spring question...because in and about 35mph is where the stock Brute seconday spring starts its final stage in shiftout and it does so quicker here then in the lower ranges. With stock tires you wouldn't notice it but with aftermarket tires, even just 26s on any aftermarket rims, the weight difference would make it feel like you need to grab a lower gear. It would still climb in speed but slower then with the stockers, and once you hit about 46-48 it would feel like it picked back up again in power some.

So, what tires and rims are you running and what springs are you running in the clutches?

Well I think I have the same manual. It says to use a press to get the crank out of the case using a press and to use two jigs and a press to put it back. All I can see is standard round bearings that may need to be pressed into the case but why use the crank to do that. The figs are to position the crank in the press properly.

So, how did you get the crank out of the case? Looks like it would just slide out over the bearing leaving the bearing in the case. Is there anything that would be used to lock the crank and bearing together as a unit?

the crank is basically pressed in the bearing and the bearing is held in by two plates with screws.

And what kind of bearing are they...meaning babbitted (like the rods),roller/needle or ball?

ok on the left side of the case is were the crank gets pressed in a ball bearing wich is the one i said is held in by two plates that are screwed in and on the right side is like a sleve type thing just like a car were oil lubs it to cut down friction wich the crank is not pressed in it just basically has a machined surface on the crank it just rides in that sleve bearing that is lubed by oil. is that to confusing?

No. Ball bearing main on the short side and babbitted sleeve on the other. Kinda strange but that what it takes. Probably has something to do with the loads on the clutch. Doesn't help with the jig, but I would thing part of it is to bear pressure so the retainer plates don't get damaged.
