Question First Oil Change

Hello Just a quick question about Synthetic oil is it a good Idea or should I stick with conventional oils . My machine has five hours and I was going to change oil soon.

Thanks

5 hours! Not yet! Better to wait until 20 hours or so at least. You will leak more and some burn synthetics, but most agree it will help make it last longer. I used conventional for the first 100 hours then switched to Mobile1. It was getting by the rings on the front cylinder so I switched back. Most don't burn it though.

I would give it the first one now. Then just go by that they recommend unless you see some color change to darker sooner then it should. That first few hundred miles is when all the breaking in happens and all that metel shavings gets in the oil. Its worth doing it sooner then later when she's new.

I run the appropriate Amsoil lube in my Brute, be it the engine, front diff, or rear diff. So far no leaks and it's not burning it. I've also run it in my ZX-10R since the first oil change in 2004.

I put synthetic in my brute at 10hrs...I really should have waited untill later, but it hasnt had any ill effects on my machine in 3 years/3500km

I dont run synthetic anymore however, i was getting burnage and more leaks than normal. Just running the kawasaki M4 oil now with wix filter

Really, it doesn't matter what oil you use, as long as it is the proper type, viscosity, and a good brand. Keeping the oils changed is what's more important than type.

I agree with richracer. Frequent oil changes are the most important thing. I change the oil in my Prairie at least 3x/ year. I figure it is cheap insurance. You are only looking at 2 qts oil and a filter. In fact, mine will be getting it's springtime oil change this weekend.

Took the synthetic back exchanged for conventional and got a lot of cash too. Oil was darker than I expected? I agree about frequencies more is better. Thanks everyone for your feedback I am ready to roll for a few more klicks.

I change mine usually every 5-700km. by then, ive put the engine threw hell. If im not off the throttle completely, then its pinned. Two positions on my throttle: STOP and YEEEHAWWWWWWW
