Dynatek CDI
I ordered a Dyna for my 650 SRA. I should recieve it on Friday. Figured I would post in here to get your guys thoughts on what I should expect. Once I get it and try it out I will post up my findings.
Once this mod is done what other mods do you recommend for gaining performance out of my little 650? Will I have to rejet with just adding a CDI. (Im completely stock) I would like to put a pipe on it but I dont want something obnoxiuosly loud. Any suggestions?
I was looking at the bottom of my carbs and it appears I can rejet without removing any thing on the bike. It looks like the carbs are leaned over for easy access to the bowls. Is this the case? It definately is different then my old 750.

Among other things it adds 5 degrees of advance to the timing. This does cause the need for a little increase in fuel, but normaly not enoigh to need rejetting. Some need larger pilots but I believe the 650 already has the #40s. Might need to shim the needles, but you won't know that untill you run it a while. About 3-5 hp gain. about a 4-6 ftlbs tork gain..I think. Easier wheelies, faster to the topend....easier to break axles...bla bla.
Don't know about the new carbs..sounds interesting.

Jetting should be fine after the dynatek. I would consider adding a better air filter like a twin air..also do the maroon primary spring if you havent already.
Im not sure if there is an aftermarket exhaust thats quiet..maybe a penland eco system if they make one for your bike. My muzzy exhaust wasnt too bad when it was new, but it sure is loud now. needs to be repacked in a bad way

well i just did the dynatek cdi, pink primary and almond secondary as well as the ehs mudlid(which i could not get enough air in when blocking the stock air intake so is now just being used to get more air in,but brute runsbetter and is liking the more air) and a dynojet kit and what a kick in the pants.my engine after being jetted runs so well now.very smooth throttle and acceleration.the almong secondary really gives you an exellent low range for rock crawling, the pink epi is only a few hundred rpms above stock.i dont know if you lose any topend with the almond, but the technical riding is better so imo worth it.i also put my bighorn 2.0 set on just to change it up,and they do have a better hook up out of the hole then the bajacross, but the fronts have tire roll on them at speed compared to the baja cross which have none!dynatek is exellent, but recomend the springs as well.anyone who does lots of technical riding should do the almond secondary, way better in low .low was to high before.nmkawie rider,do you know what the almond does to the top end, havent been out on any long trails yet.

Looks like the difference in pressure isn't enough to cause them to add an additional coil and although the Almond starts out at 140psi and my Dalton starts out at 112, the Almond ends at 250 where the Dalton ends at 264. So,If I still have all my top end, and I do, so should you. You have more low-end grab then I do but after about mid throttle, yours shifts-over faster where mine holds-out longer after mid throttle. Here is a graph with the stock Brute, my Dalton and the Almond. If I were going for low-end grunt, the Almond would be my choice too. And you are so right about the Bajas on the trails and corners. Especially with a square footprint.

you wont need to rejet you should be fine you will have to fine tune the air mixture screws no big deal get your clutch machined by vforcjon throw in a maroon primary and hang on Muzzys sounds the best but you dont add alot of HP with it untill you cam it and rejet and stuff so get the dyna get your clutch redone and hang on

Put on the dyna yesterday. Got a chance to take a 30km trip lastnight. I think I may have had too high of expectations before trying it out because Im a little disappointed. One thing forsure is it definately wants to wheelie! That Retard of timing between 0-10km/hr at stock is gone and now has its full power!!
I lined up with a buddy of mine on the pavement who weighs the same as me,,has a the same bike (650 SRA) with 26" zillas. I run 26" big horns which are physically ALOT larger and weigh consideribly more. When we took off,,I started to wheelie bad so I had to let off,,,but letting off and getting back on the throttle we were still side by side. I would say it obviously must have made a difference considering the tire weigh differences.

Well its only a few more HPs and LBs tork...but tell you what....run it for a while...say a month, then put the stock CDI back in and take it out for a few runs. I did that a few times before I decided to leave it in tune it to the Dynatek. Been in ever sence. Also, if you spread that extra tork out over all four, you will wheelie less and beat your buddy more, so always use 4wd. I can't beat anyone in 2w drive...just spins.
