2 rides and my seal is gone already..... if anyone's got any advice lemme know.
this is what i do. i clean the shaft with emery cloth. and try to put the seal in a differen't place then last time, although i have changed it soo many times i don't know where it hasn't.
i also put a little bit of high temp grease on the lips of the seal before install...
is it cuz im running synthetic??. "gus" on the board runs synthetic and hes got tons of hours on his machine.
if i have to replace that output/through shaft cuz of possible scored shaft from seal... im going to be pissed its an 08...

Believe it or not, emery cloth makes the shaft rough enough to wear the seal out very fast. And because the scratches go from the inside if the lip...or wipe to the outside, a path is made for the oil. Conventional will leak across that let alone synthetic...it would pour out that.
You gota stop using it and re-polish the seal surface. The only way now is to rig up some crokus cloth..not emery cloth.. on soft-ended stick and lay it in against the seal surface while its runnung and turning without the seal in. Yes, oil will be trying to come out and it might be a bit messy, but you have to get rid of the scratches that you put in that cut across the seal and only have some super light ones that go around the shaft. When done, clean it up well. Check to make sure there is no play in any direction on the shaft. If so, that plate needs re-shimmed. Now, when you put the seal in, fill the area between the wipe and the guard with silicone grease...not high temp stuff. Use whatever you need to tap it in streight and even...no dents.
I also recommend an oil cooler. Cuts 20-30 degrees off the oil temp and makes seals last way longer.
