Break In Period
I just picked up my new 2009 Brute 750 today. I put 1 Hour on the meter following the manual's break in instructions for the most part but it was hard avoiding the urge to goose it. I never hit the stop on the thumb lever but got a good feel for the power that is available. I have done a search on this site and others and there seems to be some differing views on how the break in should be done. I guess the question I have is how do I know what half throttle is if I have not seen what full throttle is.

Go by the distance on the throttle...that is from the idle position to the full pushed position, half way between the two. That's all. It is very important you follow the instructions as the Brute is built tight, and it has to not be subjected to the high and rapid expansion that comes with full throttle and high RPMs until its ready. It just takes a microsecond to scare a cylinder for life. As the miles go on, stretch it higher and higher but don't hold it there for long periods. Let it come down and cool off some before another run back to the higher RPMs. Soon enough you will be the mad-dog rider you always wanted to be.
I know better then most how hard that's going to be...believe me, but how you start its life now will determine how long she is going to be with you, so try to stick with the recommendations and it never hurts to give it that first oil change way sooner then they say. Enjoy your new Brute. She going to give you thousands and thousands of great heart-pounding miles. Enjoy your new Brute....and congrats!!!

GO AHEAD AND RIDE IT AROUND.DON'T BE SCARED OF IT.JUST DON'T REV THE RPM'S HIGH FOR LONG PERIODS OF TIME.RUN IT THROUGH TWO TANKS OF GAS,DROP THE OIL,AND YOU'RE READY TO ROCK.

I ran mine hard right out of the box. full throttle spirts, then back down to 1/2, then back to full. Ive got 3100km now and no ill effects that i've noticed.
I remember reading an article online that explained the bennifits of doing it this way, and it made alot of sence to me.

I suggest taking it back to the dealer too. Som do not but for waranty sake the first shoudl be done by them. It will hurt the wallet a bit but in my opinion it is worth it. This way if they do it right it the whole bike is gone through and it is documented.

I ran mine pretty dang hard right out of the box too. I have a few friends that went and bought 09 750's just like mine. They followed the regular break in instructions and mine tops out a lot faster than theres, 8 mph faster to be exact. I top out at 83 on even ground. I get there pretty quick too. When I first bought my machine it was like 68 i topped out at. Crazy difference now! BUT I never held it open for longer than a few seconds until 20 hours.
