alright so i just installed my temp gauge. and so far the fan kicks in at about 212 and kicks off at about 200, when its idleing should i be getting hot enough to kick the fan on. and how hot does it have to get to kick the dummy overheat light on at? whats a safe engine temp?
i have pics also. if anyone is interested?

So where did you put the pickup for the guage? One of the tests I did for Precision racing on the development of the stablizer system for the Brute was lots of temp tests. I used my Fluke and my inferred on lots of places. One was the spot where the hot coolant enters the radiator. There, on mine the fan would come right at 205 and would shut off about 198. I didn't monitor the fan temp sencer though. On your question about fan on at idle, yes, it will. Not sure about the overheat light temp, but has to be somewhere between 220 and 230 I would think. Safe operating temp? It is desireable, but not always possible to keep coolant temps under the boiling point of water...212. But coolant doesn't boil there so you may see it climb to 220 at times. Not a killer, but I would try to keep it less then that.

Mine runs at 210 all the time on my gauge but its at where the hot coolant goes into the engine. if your gauge stays under 215-220 your fine but it really depends where you put your sensor.

I got my temp sensor in the thermostat housing and it runs between 180 & 200. The fan usually kicks in at about 200 and shuts off at just over 180. If I'm hitting alot of holes, the temp sits between 140 - 160. Lastly, my light comes on at just over 220.
Cheers
Chris

sounds about right my sensor is on the other side where the hot coolant goes into the rad.
