Just trying to replace my primary spring without taking it to shop.

What is a good way to hold the primary clutch when torquing the 18mm bolt to 69 ft. lbs. with out buying the special tool.
Also any suggestions on how much torque required for removing bolt. Electric impact wrenches are 225 ft.lbs for cheap ones and 340 or so for 100 dollar impacts.
I read somewhere the cheaper units may not break the bolt.
Thanks

take a long extension and go from the clutch down to the floor. I have used both impacts and worked great

And remember, that bolt is a left hand threaded and there are arrows on the clutch showing the direction to LOOSEN it. You don't need an impact to get it off. Its only 69-70 lbs to take it off too.

much easier you don't need to brace it when you use an impact though

Yup, just be sure to use the tork wrench to put it back on

Thanks for the tips. I actually have done it once before when it was in the shop with their tools and everyone was busy. I just wasn't sure how to hold it when I torqued it with out that special tool. The Kawasaki mechanic said the 69 ft. lbs. was critical so don't just impact the bolt back on.

He's right. I made a holder, but most just put a tire tool in there and let it bump up to the frame.

I used a socket wrench and wedged it in and held it in my left hand and used the ratchet with my right. 69lbs doesnt seem very tight. I just switched hands putting it back on.

Well, that's what the book says. 69 foot pounds of tork is correct.
