Just traded in my old 2006 750 & was able to keep all my aftermarket stuff off of it. Figured it would be the easiest to just have the dealer put my exhaust on while they had them both anyways. Now I don't know if I made a mistake or not. I don't have anything else done to the bike yet and now from what i've been reading it sounds like I need a controller of one kind or another. I thought I would just be able to get the dynajet chip again & be OK. Do I have to put some kind of efi controller on the bike regardless?

We were just out on our first real ride since I got it & blew a brand new Grizzly (no mods I think) away no problem. I also race my buddy's 2008 650i with my old Dynajet chip in it & beat him pretty bad as well. The only thing I notice is what seems like a little bog at the start if I hammer the throttle down, but if I ease into it a bit it has lots of power.

Could anybody please help me understand for sure if I could be damaging my new quad by running it the way it is? Kind of want to treat this one a little nicer than my first quad.

Thanks

Well I don't have a lot of experience with EFI controlers, but from what I understand, and if by now they have TPS and Os sencers (the first ones didn't, just went by the mapping), the stock controler can only make so much adjustment in pulse-width of the injector and so much timing changes to the base mapping. The mapping is what tells the controler where to be at certian RPMs on the injector and timing. If the OS tells the controler the O2 level is high and the controler can't richen it up enough to bring the reading back into a normal range, then you will always run lean and therefore run the risk of melt-down at extended high RPMs and boggy starts at the low end. Some say just a slip-on pipe isn't enough to cause this(others say it is), but a full system is. I would say...if you have the money...in either case it would be a good thing to be able to have something that you could program to exactly what you want...or need.

That's my 2 cents. I'm sure others with more experience will chime-in here.

yeah you may be ok but I would spend the coin for a controller then take the risk of running to lean. if you can your hands on a A/F meter to see how close you are before you purchase anything. but you should be able to tell by feel if she is running lean to the point that it will harm the engine. You had a carbed 06 so you know how it should run. the EFI will compensate for some in most cases but the efi on the brutes are not the most advanced.

Well I took off my Muzzy & put the stock back on until I can afford to do some shopping. Don't want to do any damage to the motor by running lean. Defiitely it was the Muzzy which was giving me the hesitation off the line. I'll have to race a couple buddies of mine while I'm stock to see if I can tell how much difference the Muzzy made in the first place. I already miss the sound though!
