Default Engine Rebuild

Well, I'm kinda sad, ripped the lower rad hose off my '06 750 and was too late before I caught it, crank bearing is almost seized and a mess of sand and dirt is inside my engie, have stripped it out of the bike and split the case but don't have the time to rebuild, my local dealer is out of their mind on cost so getting it ready to crate up and ship away. Have been getting a couple of response from my inquiries so have it narrowed down to Fundy Performane, Four Stroke Tech or Flynts Custom. Thinking I'd like to go stroked crank, hd rods, high compression pistons, race cams, one piece valves and some head porting to accomodate the valves while keeping it standard bore (not sure why I'm grinning from ear to ear with my engine sitting in a cardboard box...). Anybody else running this kind of setup, experience with big bore kits (do they run REAL HOT?) or have some feedback on service received from any of these shops, sure they all provide a great service, just want to make sure I'm getting a reliable bang for my buck.

Default Engine Rebuild

Fundy has a good reputation and builds some killer motors. FST has had some quality problems lately and Mickey has stated he's trying to get away from building motors and semiretire. But, you know how it goes , you always here from people when things go wrong and never from the thousands of customer that are completely happy and riding. I run Mickeys pistons in my motor and they are good parts. I know Flynt personally and he is a great person to deal with and he knows his stuff. I don't know what his turn around time is now that he closed his service shop , but, it used to be pretty quick. Also don't forget AMR. Glen has some cutting edge stuff and is second to none when it comes to porting.

Flynt did the head work and valves on my rebuild. Stand up guy and great to do business with. I have my issues with Mickey, but will not air dirty laundry in public. Glen, AMR Racing is also a great guy, and a h-ll of an engine builder. I have a set of his cams going into my Prairie next weekend. VFORCEJOHN is installing them. He can put together any kit you buy and certainly knows his stuff! I have not had any work done by Ray (Fundy), but have spoken with him several times. I think his Ultimate Trail Kit would be one heck of a buid for you. Anyone of these guys will leave you smiling, and your friends looking at the backside of your Brute Force. :-)

Flynt is supposed to be one of the best out there. I see his name praised everywhere.

Exactly. He has some great products, but has never quite mastered the fine art of customer appreciation and customer service. The total cost of mods, including gas to get to VFORCEJOHN and back, going into my Prairie this upcoming weekend, is $1200 - $1300. Some of that would have been FST products, but is not. Instead it is AMR products. Sad thing is that Mickey would never even understand why I am upset with him and found another vendor to supply me with cams.

Thanks for all the input, will have to talk with Ray and Flynt directly to get a feel for what they can do if I ship the engine out in a crate, will update once my Brute lives again.

Well, went with the FST 840, it's been a long winter but finally got it running last month, only idles for about 45 seconds, empties the float bowl, it will not push past 55 km/hr once pushed but it is running extremely lean. Waiting on jets to come out of Tokyo, couldn't find what I needed in North America (going to try #50 & #55 pilots, #42's do nothing, currently have 185 mains f/B but they just burp in the carb once at WOT) and then hit the local dyno once it idles to dial it in! Will post vids once have something to share.

Good luck and keep us posted. There are a few of us including myself that are looking at doing what you did to our Brutes. It should be a real monster when finished. Of course we will need vids...with good sound..
