Has anyone tried making there own skid plates?
I was thinking about using the stock Plastic skids as a template, and making copies out of 1/4 aluminum. I just need to find a sawzall blade, or cutting wheel that will cut aluminum. The front skid will probably be the hardest, so I think I will start with the center, then rear. Any ideas?

I found that a skill saw with the orbital stroke and a 10 tooth blade worked the best. Much easier to control than the Sawzall. Even without the obital stroke, low speed is the key to keep the blade from loading up. Also, spray some silicone lube on your cut path, it also helps the chips release from the blade.

Plus, you don't want to use a sawzall for precise cuts...they're more for rough cuts....

I made my own skids and they worked out great. My front skid is similar to the one on the lifted brute on the brutecentral home page. It was rather easy to make them all. I used a skill saw and a jigsaw that worked excellent. I would highly promote doing it yourself if your somewhat mechanical. I haven't made the CV boot sheilds yet but I will once the snow is gone. I did find that the quad is louder now. It seems to echo of the aluminum checker plate that I used, but well worth it. I was amazed at how bashed up the skids get.

Made mine out of 11 gauge steel. Plasma cutter, grinder, and a drill.

Has anyone tried making there own skid plates?
Sometime this year, I'll be making one out of puckboard (I already have the puckboard at home). I'm going to make it a single piece, as apposed to three. I'll post pics and specs when I get it done.
Cheers
Chris

I used puckboard on my old honda and it worked out great. Slides over snow better than aluminum and is actually quite tough.
